Scuba diving, snorkelling, island hopping, and exploring the Male City are some of the activities that every tourist must do in the Maldives. In this article we have curated some of the most important things to do in the Maldives that will make your trip amazing:

  1. Go island hopping:

Maldives is a magical country comprising 1192 coral islands and a chain of 26 Atolls. Most of the islands are located close to each other and can be explored by Dhonis, speedboats or seaplanes. This means that many popular islands can be covered in a day’s excursion. Most tourists start their journey from Male city. With the help of a Maldivian guide visitors can take boats or seaplanes to Baros, Mirihi, Vadhoo, Maafushi, Fulidhoo, and Kuredu to name a few. Most hotels help arrange a local guide for their guests. If not, there are many local travel agencies that help with guide services to tourists. This is definitely one of the most important things to do in the Maldives.

  2. Scuba dive with sharks:

Maldives is considered one of the best places in the world for scuba diving. The magnificent coral reef and a myriad of exotic marine life make for an excellent diving experience. The biggest attraction is, of course, the sharks. The underwater world of Maldives is full of a wide variety of sharks like the Grey Reef Shark, Tiger Shark, and Hammerhead Shark. One of the most important things to do in the Maldives, scuba diving facilities are available on most of the islands in the Maldives. Beginners can even opt for a training program before going for the actual dive. The average cost of scuba diving in the Maldives is around INR 5000-7000.

Located in Raa Atoll, the island with the magical beach is Vadhoo Island. In the evening, the water by the Vadhoo shore lights up thanks to the millions of Bioluminescence planktons that inhabit the shore. If anyone stands by the shore and stirs the water, the planktons rise up in the air creating star-like blue dots on the water. During the day, the beautiful blue water and the gorgeous landscape of the island make for a tourist’s delight.

  4. Explore Maldives’ biggest artificial island:

Nestled in North Male Atoll, Hulhumale is a creation of the Maldivian government as a response to the climate crisis. Hulhumale is an artificial island that is inaugurated by the Maldivian government in 2004. Despite being an artificial island, it is still the fourth-largest island in the Maldives. Hulhumale is the perfect island to explore both the natural side of the Maldives and urban life. It has many beautiful beaches lined with palm trees making visiting it one of the must-do things in the Maldives.

  5. Get on a seaplane:

While there are many ways to explore the Maldives, using a seaplane is definitely one of the fanciest ones. Also called air taxis, seaplanes fly at low altitudes above the water. This gives the passengers an incredible opportunity to get a bird’s eye view of the island nation. There are two main air taxi operators in the Maldives. The Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) and the Maldivian Air Taxi (MAT). Most flights fly for around 20 minutes, but longer flights may be arranged. Many people take seaplanes to reach remote resorts that may not be easily accessible via boats.

  6. Go snorkelling:

Snorkelling is another great way to explore the underwater world of the Maldives. Snorkelling does not require any experience in swimming and snorkellers can enjoy the depth of the ocean just as much as scuba divers. Swim with the eagle rays, eels, and clownfish and explore the massive and incredibly colourful coral reefs.
